Welcome back to our blog section, where we cover different Valorant agents and show how you can squeeze all the potential out of them. Today’s blog is about one of the most beloved agents in the game. Killjoy in Valorant is one of the strongest Sentinel, and she is one of the most picked agents among all the ranks and game modes. She is a defensive beast who helps her team by pushing through impossible locations while she holds everything like nothing happened.
To become the best lockdown defender for your team with Killjoy in Valorant, you must understand her and how her kit works during Attacking and Defending rounds. Although her main goal is to defend her teammates, her diverse utility and the possibilities of gathering information make Killjoy an invaluable resource. So, with this in mind, let’s take a look at her abilities:
Nanoswarm - (C) (L1 - PS5) (LB - Xbox X/S)
When you activate this ability, it will equip a grenade to Valorant’s Killjoy that you can throw using the ‘Fire’ button. When you throw it to a previously selected location, the Nanoswarm will stay covert, hiding from the sight of foes until they come close to it. Using the ‘Alt Fire’, you can take it back to you. When it activates, it will deploy a swarm of nanobots that will damage the enemy agents inside the AoE of 4.5 meters. It costs 200 credits, has two charges per round, a duration of four seconds, and a detection radius is 5.25 meters.
Alarmbot - (Q) (R1 - PS5) (RB - Xbox X/S)
When this ability is activated, it will equip you with a cover Alarmbot. Using the ‘Fire’ button, you will deploy it and will hunt down the enemies within its range of action. When this Alarmbot reaches its target, it will explode and apply a Vulnerable as a debuff to all the enemies in the area. You can recall the Alarmbot if you want using the ‘Alt Fire’ button. It costs 200 credits, and the duration of the debuff is 4 seconds. Moreover, it only has one charge per round, and the recall time is 20 seconds.
Signature - Turret - (E) (O - PS5) (B / Xbox X/S)
This ability is what makes Killjoy in Valorant a superstar. When you activate her signature, it will equip a Turret you can deploy by pressing the ‘Fire’ button. This Turret will fire at enemy agents in a 100 degree cone, and you can set it up as you like or swap the direction if needed. If you don’t feel it’s the best place for your Turret, you can recall it and deploy it in another position. It doesn’t have a credit cost, and you will only have one per round, with the deploy time being 40 seconds and the recall time 20 seconds. The damage will depend on the distance of your enemies, but you can expect to deal between 12 to 24 damage per burst.
Ultimate - Lockdown - (X) (L1 + R1 - PS5) (LB + RB - Xbox X/S)
The Killjoy Ultimate in Valorant will equip a Lockdown device you can deploy using the ‘Fire’ button that can catch and apply Detains to all the enemies that are in the radius of effect. However, the enemy agents will have the opportunity to destroy the device since the windup time is about 13 seconds. It costs 9 ultimate points and includes 200 hit points.
Killjoy can utilize her kit to help the team gather intel, push through some impossible situations and take some great spots. Understanding and mastering her quirks will surely sway you into using this agent more and more. While she is not a complicated character to master, practice and taking the time to find your feet with a combination of other agents is essential. Once you get everything under control, her abilities and kit are sure to carry you far on the battlefield.
One thing you will notice is that Killjoy in Valorant plays a defensive role during the matches; however, she can become a utility agent thanks to her kit. Of course, most of the matches require gathering information and sometimes risking a teammate to discover the enemy agent's plan. Thanks to all the gadgets Killjoy has up her sleeve, they can work a way to alarm your teammates without taking a wrong turn.
Valorant’s Killjoy is great for uncovering the position of your enemies and ambushing them or creating an elaborate plan that can help you plant the Spike or defuse it. It’s crucial to use chokepoints in your favor. Remember, Killjoy can recall most of the gadgets she uses to adjust the strategy. A fantastic way to use Nanoswarm is to place them in a specific location where enemies can’t notice them; such as behind a wall of a concurred path.
You can play more aggressively if you want to use Nanoswarm and Alarmbot more vertically. These abilities work great together because both are defensive gadgets that can be used while pushing or attacking. The combination reduces the risk of enemies destroying one of the abilities before your team is able to make use of them.
The real power is staking both together: put Alarmbot near the entrance and then place Nanoswarms behind it. Calculate the distance and use Nanoswarm wisely by placing it a few meters behind but close enough to Alarmbot to cover a larger area. When an enemy enters the AoE, Alarmbot will emit a pop you can hear and will activate Nanoswarm to inflict damage to your enemies.
Another option you have while playing Killjoy in Valorant is to use the Alarmbot as a push-stopper for the nature of the ability itself. Alarmbot will rush to its target and will explode once it reaches an enemy agent, applying Vulnerability for 4 seconds. This creates a scenario where the foes must think wisely before making their next move if they want to stay alive. You can also combine Alarmbot with Turret to increase the damage of your signature before the enemy can face it for the debuff applied after Alarmbot finds its target.
When you use the Killjoy’s Turret, you will see it’s more than just a way to deal free damage to your opponents. Since it will turn on and alert you when an enemy is nearby, you can use it to watch more than just an angle. The signature ability of Killjoy in Valorant covers a 100-degree cone from left to right, and you can maximize the range by placing it in areas where it can reach two locations at once. One example of this is putting it on top of the brick on the A site in the Ascent map. This will allow you to cover the A main and A short with the Turret.
Another great way to use the Turret is to bring additional firepower during a round. This gadget only has 125 hit points, but it can work as a perfect support in situations where you are alone or in dire situations like 1v1 or 1v2. However, you can use it as support; don’t rely on the Turret since its DPS is too low. Still, it can be a distraction to crush them while foes are focused on the gadget. If the Turret hits an enemy, it is likely to get slowed down, giving you the perfect chance to kill them. For Killjoy in Valorant, during the offensive rounds, the use of the Turret can be advantageous if you place it in the right location to secure flanks. If you are in defensive rounds, it can be used more as an alarm, allowing you to know what is happening without having visuals of your enemies.
Finally, Killjoy’s Ultimate in Valorant is the authentic expression of how to disrupt combat; it’s like stopping time for your enemies if they get caught inside Lockdown. It’s a perfect way to gain power over them in instances that are unfavorable for you and your teammates. Be careful when you use her ultimate, as it has a windup of 13 seconds, and foes can quickly destroy it.
Sometimes while using Valorant’s Killjoy during offensive rounds, you would rather wait until the endgame to use her abilities because, at that moment, her abilities will shine. She is not the one to perform a hardcore push in the early game. You'll be better off securing the flanks or backlines with Killjoy's gadgets to create opportunities for your team to ambush enemies at any opportunity. Her abilities within her kit are excellent at protecting the Spike, thanks to the alarm-like features that allow you to know if any enemies are close. When defending, vertical thinking comes into play more, as you'll use her gadgets to attack and ruin enemy plans. In this case, it's imperative that you remain alert, listening for sounds and signals that can allow you to take the kill, or defuse the Spike.
A significant portion of playing Killjoy in Valorant is the setups you use in different maps and situations. Of course, if you only rely on one strategy, your enemies will adapt and crush you during matches. If you want to master Killjoy, it is essential that you have a wide selection of setups depending on the map you are playing. Remember, each map has its uniqueness, so you'll need to not only master utilizing her kit but also how to alternate between plans to make the most of every match in the different terrains.
Creating different setups and strategies is an essential move, as you will keep the enemy agents on their toes; unsure of when or how an attack will strike them. You can use Killjoy's abilities more aggressively for a few rounds, before changing things up to take a more conservative approach with more strategy. Your setup will also depend on how you wish to confront enemies or play through different scenarios. Because of this, you must always keep in mind different ways to adapt to keep things fresh.
When you decide to master an agent like Killjoy, the learning curve can be challenging. Although she’s an easy agent to understand, the combinations you can create to surprise your enemies are endless. That’s why it’s normal for you to have some questions about her, so let’s clear the waters and start your journey to mastering Killjoy.
What are the best agents to match with Killjoy in Valorant?
As Valorant is a game designed for teamwork, you'll want to ensure that your pairings can bounce off of one another, creating excellent strategies, and lifting each other's weaknesses. So, creating duos with Cypher for the Trapwire ability will allow you to combine with Killjoy's Nanoswarm and Alarmbot. Thus creating a harmonious attack strategy.
Another option is Brimstone since you and your duo can arrange pushes to use the smokes and the Turret together to confuse the enemies. Astra is an option that has the potential to trap enemies and push them out of their comfort zone. The combination of Cosmic Divide, Nova Pulse and Gravity Well with her kit means you can cover most bases in all rounds.
What are the most recent Killjoy updates?
Recently, changes were made to the degree range in Turret, which affected the agents negatively. However, this ability is still a must-have for veterans and newcomers alike. The decrease in range was simply implemented by Riot in an attempt to create a more balanced meta without removing the ability entirely.
With all of this new found information, it's time to take it all in and process the excellence of this agent. Despite her not being a complex agent to master, it will still come with a learning curve and several hours of dedication, so why not kick-start things now?
