OSRS: Wintertodt Guide

Within this Wintertodt guide OSRS, we will look at the overall aspects of the Wintertodt. Exploring all areas of the mini-boss giving players a better understanding of what to expect or what will be expected of them.

What is Wintertodt?

It is a minigame-style boss which is located in the Northern Tundras in Great Kourend. When present it brings with it a never-ending winter and unimaginable frost. When players fight Wintertodt, it's more a case of using their trained skill rather than their battle tactics. The lookout states that it is not yet known what the Wintertodt is, yet it has still managed to gain notoriety amongst most of the Great Kourend population.

A group of Arceuus mages known as pyromancers, servants to the secret flame, are the only people with knowledge of the spells needed to overcome Wintertodt, meaning they are desperately relied upon to be one of the main defenses of Great Kourend. They will require a player's assistance in preventing the Wintertodt from progressing, this is because, despite their legendary magical abilities, they lack in other areas of skill.

Before even beginning the attempt to defeat the Wintertodt, players must ensure they are at least level 50 Firemaking. A player's skill level in Construction, Herblore, Fletching, and Woodcutting will not affect their speed in related activities, they will however be granted more experience.

What you'll need.

As we delve further into this Wintertodt Guide: OSRS, we will now take a look at what is needed of a player while partaking in the takedown of the Wintertodt.

Be at least level 50 Firemaking to participate.

Completion of quest points Druidic ritual is necessary to pick Bruma herbs needed to create rejuvenation potions.

A player-owned house is needed to gain construction experience due to repairing broken braziers.

Due to the inevitable cold that will be present when battling the Wintertodt, warm clothing is absolutely essential. There are many options of warm clothing in-game, the easiest of which to obtain being Clue Hunter, with the added bonus of it being entirely free. In addition to the much-needed clothing, players are required to bring a Tinderbox, this will assist them in lighting the Brazier. They will also require their best woodcutting ax, a hammer is necessary for essential repairs of the Brazier also. Food is another essential, a knife is recommended but not required, only being needed if a player wishes to Fletch.

How to get there

There are two relatively simple methods to reach Wintertodt. The first of which being the easiest, is to teleport to the location using the game's necklace. The second being the use of a Fairy Ring code C I A and then follow the yellow path. If a player chooses to use the Fairy Ring in order to get there, they will be required to pay Trossa 80,000 coins. If these two options are not plausible for a player, it is recommended they walk to the destination. This can be done by the player taking a boat from Port Sarim to Port Piscarilius. Wintertodt can then be located on the map and the player can walk the rest of the journey.

How to fight

When a player enters the Doors of Dinh, they are able to take certain supplies with them. These include bronze axes, knives, tinderboxes, hammers, and some unfinished rejuvenation potions.

As previously mentioned, skill comes into the fight against the Wintertodt rather than conventional combat. Players are required to light braziers around the prison, this will drain Wintertodt of its energy. This can be done by chopping the roots found near the braziers, this allows the player to obtain Bruma roots. A knife is recommended to be used on the roots to acquire Bruma kindling, this, in turn, provides slightly more Firemaking experience, the scale of which varies depending on player leveling.

The Wintertodt will become increasingly agitated throughout the fight against it, and as its energy is lowered it will put out flames more frequently as its energy is drained. Players will also be required to use their hammers to fix the braziers, as the Wintertodt will inevitably break them.

The Wintertodt, in its efforts to continue its rampage, will begin to do damage to pyromancers. They will be attacked with snow, and if the braziers break, they will expel shrapnel. This is also a cause of damage to the pyromancers. Unfortunately for the pyromancers and players within the fight, pyromancers only have so much health. An average of 3 hits from Wintertodt will send them into despair. Reaching 0 health will incapacitate them, leaving them unable to defend Great Kourend from the Wintertodt. Bruma roots/kindling can be added to the brazier to fuel it, however, if they are extinguished, the player will be required to give the pyromancers a rejuvenation potion. This is because the braziers can not be reignited while they incapacitated.

Point System

Logs → Brazer: 10 Points

Kindling → Brazier: 25 Points

Repair → Brazier: 25 Points

Light → Brazier: 25 points

Heal → Pyro: 30 points

For every 500 points, a player will be granted one crate following Wintertodts death. It's possible to obtain 27 supply crates from one game. By getting closer to another crate, the potential for the crate to drop rises, meaning possible additional rewards for the next crate. Players can acquire more Wintertodt points by using kindling rather than logs on the Brazier. Though this method is less AFK.

Rewards

These reward crates are able to be stored within the bank, though they are not stackable.
