World of Warcraft Classic: Burning Crusade Expansion

First announced at Blizzcon 21, The Burning Crusade will become World of Warcraft Classic’s first expansion, and is expected to be released on June 1st 2021, following the pre-patch. Players of WoWC will have a choice between playing on the new expansion (which will be migrated over from the existing realms) or stay on the pure vanilla version of WoWC. Unlike when TBC was released for the original World of Warcraft, this classic version will be free to play as long as you have an active WoW subscription/ game time. The pre-patch currently contains some features of the The Burning Crusade expansion, such as the new races.

For those unfamiliar with the expansion, or have forgotten what exactly this expansion brought to the game, what can you expect? Well firstly there will be two new playable races, the Draenei of the Alliance and the Blood Elves of the Horde. Another major feature is the introduction of a new area “Outland” which is a new planet separate to the main planet you can enter through the addition of dark portals, as well as new areas in the existing world of Azeroth for you to explore. Along with the new areas and characters you can also expect new quests, enemies and bosses. There is also a total level increase, going from 60 to a new max level of 70, meaning some areas will be locked off until you reach the higher levels. When it was first released it became the best selling game of 2007, a huge achievement for a game expansion and it’s huge popularity means many players are excited to revisit it.

Another of the key additions to the game are the introduction of the pvp arena, a new type of pvp setting compared with the battlegrounds of vanilla wow and one that was very popular on it’s initial release. So what exactly is the arena in The Burning Crusade? Unlike in vanilla WoWC Arenas are simply deathmatches between two teams, consisting of either 2, 3 or 5 players, you win when all your opponents have died. Also interestingly these fights are not based on factions, so you can fight with and against both alliance and horde players. Games can be either ranked or skirmish, skirmishes are just casual games, you can queue up and play with any players also waiting, whereas ranked you must play with your arena team and you receive rating points after each game known as the arena point system. King Dond the arena organizer located at the Ring of Trials in Nagrand can sell you an arena team charter, which will allow you to create arena teams, with varying gold prices for 2v2, 3v3 and 5v5 teams.

Let's take a look at the new Alliance race, the Draenei. In terms of their lore they are descendants of the race of Eredar who were corrupted and chased out of their homeland by the burning legion until they settled on their new home planet of Draenor, which they shared and lived peacefully alongside the Orcs. They were once again found by the Burning Crusade which forced them to arrive on Azeroth. They have a few good racials, their Jewelcrafting skill (a new skill for The Burning Crusade) is boosted by 5, Gift of Naaru restores a targets health over time and lasts for 15 seconds, Heroic Presence (only for Hunters, Paladins and Warriors) increases you and any party member within 30 yards chance to hit by 1%, Inspiring Presence which is the same as the previous skill but for magic spells and only works with Mages, Priests and Shamans and lastly your shadow resistance increased by 10. There are 6 available classes to the Draenei they are Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Shaman (the only of the Alliance races to be this class) and Warrior. They also have a unique mount, which is the elephant-like creature the “Elekk” which are sold just north of the entrance to the Draenei capital of the Exodar

The other new race are the Blood Elves for the Horde. Calling Silvermoon city home after they survived the assault from Arthas, the Blood Elves were a faction of high elves but have since been cut off from Elven society. There are 9 available classes to the Blood Elves, they are Death Knight, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Warlock, Warrior and Monk. They have a few racial bonuses which are Arcane Torrent, which removes 1 beneficial effect from all enemies that are within 8 yards of you and in turn restore 3% of your Mana, 15 Energy, 15 Rage, 15 Focus, 1 Holy Power, 1 Chi, or 20 Runic Power. Arcane Acuity, which increases the chance of you hitting a critical strike by 1%, Arcane Affinity which increases enchanting skills by 10 and Arcane Resistance which reduces damage taken by 1%. The Blood Elve’s new unique mount are the Hawkstriders, which can be bought close to the entrance of Silvermoon city.
