Crafting metals are an essential part of
Apex Legends should you wish to unlock and craft in-game cosmetics. They are one of three currencies within the game. The other two are Legend Tokens which are used for unlocking new playable characters: and Coins, which you can use to purchase things from the in-game shop. Though players can acquire Crafting metals via organic means throughout the game, what is provided is not enough to achieve much of what Apex has to offer. Crafting metals are found in Apex Packs, which is essentially the Apex version of a Loot Box. These packs are received on somewhat of a schedule throughout the game and are received as follows:
• Level 1-20: Once per level up. (20 Packs)
• Level 22-300: Once every other level. (139 Packs)
• Level 305-500: Once every five levels. (40 Packs)
Meaning players can organically receive 199 Apex Packs as they make their way through the levels; though this may seem like quite a few packs, this won't offer you even close to the desired amount of required items.
When receiving these Apex Packs, there is always the possibility to receive Crafting Metals, but there are also several other cosmetic types that could be found within the pack, such as:
• Weapon skins
• Legend skins
• Legend finishers
• Banner frames
• Banner poses
• Banner stat trackers
• Intro quips
• Kill quips
There are often three items within each Apex Pack, yet only a 20% chance of receiving Crafting Metals. Within that 20%, there is a 70% chance that the Crafting Metal will be common and a 20% chance of a rarer drop; though this may be disheartening, it offers a much larger reward than those in pursuit of Heirloom shards, as these offer only a 0.20% chance of receiving them in an Apex Pack.
So, as we can see, though Apex Legends offers many chances to get your hands on crafting metals, there is still a high chance that you will not come close to earning enough to possess many of the unlockable cosmetics. There are around 1,880 cosmetic items that can be unlocked, each of which requires a different amount of Crafting Metal to unlock/equip. These can be viewed by going to the Lobby screen and opening the Legends Tab; these are the categories they fall into:
• Legend skins
• Legend banners
• Legend stances
• Legend quips
• Legend emotes
• Holo-sprays
• Weapon skins
• Weapon charms
Other means of Acquiring Apex Packs
Once we have viewed the fact that there is an extremely slim chance of acquiring even half of the desired cosmetics via organic means, we can now take a look at how else players can acquire their Crafting Metals and make the best of their Apex journey.
Buying Apex Packs with Coins
Coins can be gained via rewards in-game, or by purchasing them from the in-game store using real currency. Players looking to buy Apex Packs can do so for 100 coins per pack, if you are required to use real world currency, you can get your hands on 1,000 Apex Coins for $9.99. This is far from ideal for many players, as well as not being cost-effective, and it isn't very efficient as we've already established. It is for reasons like this that some players choose to buy accounts that are well established. As with a potential drop rate of only 20%, you could find yourself spending a ton of money only to receive the lowest bundle type. These are as follows:
• Common - 15 piece
• Rare - 30 piece
• Epic - 200 piece
• Legendary - 600 piece
Since some cosmetics can cost a player 1,200 Crafting Metal, this isn't ideal, and since there are over 1,880 cosmetic items, this can genuinely be a costly and time-consuming experience.
Purchase Battle Pass
By purchasing a battle pass that costs 950 Apex Coins, players will receive reactive skins for Hemlock, legendary gear for Seer and Lola, Epic sets for Crypto and Lifeline, as well as many other free items, including Apex Packs. This will, of course, mean they are in with a chance of receiving Crafting Metals in these drops. Upon completion of the battle pass, players can also turn a profit as they receive 1,250 Coins. This means players will have enough currency to enter next season's battle pass, as well as purchasing three Apex Packs, or should they not wish to partake in the following season battle pass, they can get their hands on twelve packs.
Battle Pass Bundle
Though this is a more costly alternative, players can purchase the Battle Pass Bundle with each season; costing 2,800 Apex Coins; it is quite the commitment. Though it does offer the bonus of unlocking 25 levels of content and a legendary skin for Seer known as 'Aces High.'
Recommended Methods
Though these methods are more likely to assist you with what comes after the initial drop, it is advised that players strategically unlock their cosmetic items to get the best results from Apex Packs. Start off by unlocking all common items first. Then moving on to acquire all Rare items, then following suit with Epic and Legendary. We recommend this because, although Apex does carry duplicates in the packs, it is understood that rare items which are yet to be acquired hold priority over rare duplicates. This in itself should assist you in your pursuit of unlocking all 1,880 cosmetic items. Meaning you can play Apex in style!
