How to see hidden games on Steam

There are many reasons you may be looking to hide games on Steam; some players share accounts with their younger siblings, meaning they don't want them to get their hands on unsavoury NSFW content from the Steam Store that caters to way outside their age bracket. Though for this, we'd personally recommend buying Steam accounts for privacy, we understand that this isn't plausible for all users. Not to mention those guilty pleasure games we don't want our friends to know about! Or there is also the fact you may have too many titles in your downloads that you don't know where to begin. Don't worry, though; this is an easy and reversible process that anyone can do. Hiding your steam games means you can have a better handle on what you have and where you have it; so long as you remember you have hidden your games, you can get them back again. Before we get into how to recover these hidden steam games, let's take a quick look at hiding them first. An important thing to know is the difference between 'hiding' your games and 'removing' them. As we've established, hiding is reversible, whereas removing is not such an easy undo. Removing a game is more of a semi-permanent action, though you may still have to hide your removed games, as removing just means the game is no longer highlighted in your downloads list. Now let's check out what this guide entails:

How to hide games on Steam

Though we're here to discuss finding what you’ve hidden, before we get into unhiding them, we need first to discuss how to hide them in the first place, so let's get into it. Start, of course, by opening Steam; once you've done so, you'll need to click on your Steam Library.' Following this, you'll need to right-click on the title you're looking to hide. Next, hover over the list that appears; one of the options available to you should be 'manage'; this will open up a second smaller list, and here you can find the option to 'hide this game.' Click on this, and that's that, you've hidden your game! Make sure you note that it will remain invisible even if you search for the hidden game. Don't worry, though; we're going to get into how exactly you can locate them again in our next segment. Note, hiding games in this manner will not make them disappear from your friends, and those who view your recent gameplay will be able to see what you've been up to. We will, however, get into an option that can cover this later on in the guide.

How to view hidden games on Steam

In order to view your hidden games, you'll first have to locate the 'view' tab at the top left of your screen. Once you've done so, hover over this, and it will bring you a drop-down list; there should appear a list, and on this list should be an option that reads 'hidden games.' Now you've located your hidden games, you can play them as usual, or you can move onto unhiding them. Now that we've established how to do all of this let's move onto the important part of this guide; how to unhide games.

How to unhide games on Steam

Should there come a time you no longer share your Steam account with a younger sibling, or you just no longer wish to have your content hidden, here is what you'll need to do in order to unhide them. As with hiding and locating, it's another simple process. Once you're in your list of hidden games, simply right-click the title you wish to unhide. This will bring up a list of options and one of which should be 'Manage.' This will bring up yet another secondary smaller list of options. Within these options will be 'Remove from Hidden.' Click on this, and your game should reappear in your usual list. And that's that; it really is an easy process!

Other Options

If you're looking to privatize your profile and hide all of your Steam information, you can always privatize your Steam profile. This will mean that no one can view your Game Collection, Achievements, Trophies, etc.; to carry out your profile privatization, you'll need to go to your profile and select the 'edit' option. Once you've done so, you'll have to enter your privacy settings, and there will be a segment titled 'Game details.' Underneath this should be the option to change to private. Doing this will now mean no one can view the games you play or own or anything associated with them on your account. There are, of course, the options' public' and 'friends only,' which will allow a player to have a privacy level somewhat in the middle of the scale. All of these options will apply to all games until a time comes when you decide to change this setting. This option is a bit more drastic, though it does save the time of hiding individual titles from your friends and family. Do remember that if you share a Steam account with your younger sibling, the profile privatization will not conceal any NSFW content you may have. So your only option to do so is to hide games on Steam. For a short-term option for those wishing to have some level of privacy while they embark on a gaming journey, there's always the option to appear offline. However, doing so will hide your recent achievements and other information that may show while you're in-game.
